染色体全長の解析により非病原性Cryptococcus属菌の系統関係を再検討した。
そこで見出されたカナリア諸島産の隠蔽種をCryptococcus floricolaとして新種記載した。
交配試験ではC. wingfieldiiと他種は交配できず、C. floricolaはC. amylolentusと交配したが子孫は生存不能あるいは不稔であり、生殖的隔離が既に確立していることが示された。
