分子系統解析やAFLP解析の結果に基づき、下水処理場で分離された菌株をDebaryomyces vindobonensisとして新種記載した。
本種は近縁種と形態学的・生理学的に非常に類似していたが、ラムノースを資化し、デンプンを資化できず、50%グルコース添加培地で生育できることで区別された。
