本属は分生子形成細胞がポリトレト型で求頂性の分生子鎖を生じ、孔が暗色で厚い壁に囲まれることなどで特徴づけられた。

また、分生子に最大7隔壁を有することなどで特徴づけられる新種D. variabilisを記載した。
