スペインでユーカリ属の樹下から、Discinella terrestris種複合体に含まれる2種を採集した。
それぞれをPhaeohelotium undulatum（新組み合わせ）およびPhaeohelotium succineoguttulatum（新種）として記載した。
分子系統解析の結果、Phaeohelotium属が側系統群であることが明らかになったほか、分子系統解析の結果に基づいて複数の新組み合わせを提唱した。

チリ、ロス・ラゴス州のナンキョクブナ林の地上に発生した2種の菌を検討し、Phaeohelotium maiusaurantiumおよびPh. pallidumの2新種を記載した。
分子系統解析により、本属内に腐生菌と推定される系統群と外生菌根菌と推定される系統群の2つのサブクレードが存在することが明らかになった。
両新種は土壌という基質と系統解析の結果から、外生菌根菌サブクレードに属すると考えられた。
