本種は子嚢胞子表面が網目状で、両端が魚の尾のように凹んだ鈍頭の嘴状であることなどで特徴づけられた。

本種の子嚢胞子の突起はG. leucoxanthaに類似していたが、サイズがより小さく、桃色を帯びることなどで区別された。
