パラゴムノキの深刻な病害であるSALB (South American leaf blight) の原因菌は長らくMicrocyclus uleiと呼ばれてきたが、3つのモルフが異なる3科にまたがる状態にあった。

ブラジル全土の標本を基に6遺伝子領域に基づく分子系統解析を行い、新組み合わせPseudocercospora uleiを提唱した。

本種の系統的位置が明らかになったことで、より研究の進んだ近縁種との比較により、SALBの疫学的・遺伝学的知見が得られることが期待された。
