米国バージニア州においてクロツヤムシ科およびゴミムシダマシ科甲虫およびその生息材から分離されたScheffersomycesクレードの酵母を検討した。
複数遺伝子の分子系統解析に基づき、Scheffersomyces parashehatae、S. xylosifermentansなど4新種を記載した。
Scheffersomyces属は多系統群であり、本属の範囲を基準種S. stipitisに近縁かつキシロース発酵能を有する菌群に限るべきとした。
