Alternaria属Alternaria節の9種の形態種を対象に全ゲノム配列決定を行った。

さらに12種の形態種についてトランスクリプトームシーケンシングを、168分離株について複数遺伝子の配列決定を行い、SSU、LSU、ITSなど9遺伝子領域の識別能力を検証した。

これらの結果から本節に11種の系統学的種および1つの種複合体のみを認め、35形態種をA. alternataのシノニムとした。
