Belongs to the R. badioatrum complex, sharing morphological and anatomical similarities with R. badioatrum. Distinguished mainly by the presence of stictic acid. Two other species with 1-septate, green to brown spores and stictic acid in thallus are R. copelandii and R. jemtlandicum.[1]
