泡盛、焼酎、マッコリなどの醸造に用いられ、韓国の味噌(メジュ)や麹(ヌルク)、中国のプーアル茶などからも頻繁に分離されるコウジカビ属菌(黒麹・白麹)には、これまで複数の学名が与えられてきた。
本研究では菌株の形態比較や分子系統解析、RAPDなどを行った結果、3種が同種であり、近縁のAspergillus nigerおよびA. tubingensisとは分子で明瞭に区別されることが明らかになった。
3種の学名のうち、乾環が1901年に記載したAspergillus luchuensisが優先権を持ち、本論文ではこの学名で再度記載を行うとともに、本種がマイコトキシンを産生しないことを確かめた。
